Class Details 

Students will receive 11” Golden Trout Pattern and Cutout with fins and a paint schedule

All aspects of carving fish regarding techniques, accuracy, and craftsmanship to be demonstrated.

Student will receive hand outs on the latest techniques on carving fish, scaling, fins and fin insertion. Students will learn proven techniques taught to me by World Champion Fish Carvers Bob Berry, Jeff Compton, and Clark Schreibeis

Morning session 8 am to 12 noon

CARVING THE BODY OF THE FISH

  • Layout and symmetry

  • Actual carving demonstration

  • Pattern head transfer to carving

  • Open mouth/ closed mouth

  • Caudal fin insertion

CARVING THE FINS

  • Layout and design

  • In line fins

  • Paired fins

  • Fin insertion

SCALING THE FISH

  • Layout and design

  • Burning scales

  • Rolling scales

Afternoon session 1 pm to 4:30 pm

PAINTING THE GOLDEN TROUT

PREPPING AND SEALING THE CARVING

  • Sealing with lacquer base

  • Base coat

  • Air Brushing base coats

  • Scale tipping

  • Painting the eye

  • Painting with powders

  • Painting finish

Each student will receive:

  • 11” Golden trout pattern by Dan Patterson

  • 11” cutout with fins

  • Paint schedule handout

  • Paint schedule for eye

  • Fin carving handout 

  • Fish Scaling handout
