Welcome  to the 2023 Columbia Flyway Wildlife Show

This show has a reputation as the premier wildlife carving show and competition in the Northwest. Photos from the 2022 show can be seen by clicking this link. The first show in Astoria Oregon in 2022, broke all attendance records including the most carving entries, funds raised via auctions, and raffles, people attending the banquet, and three days of sunshine!

In 2022, we moved to a spacious 15,000 s/f building owned by the Clatsop County Fairgrounds and Expo in historic Astoria, Oregon. Astoria is on the banks of the mighty Columbia River, as it enters the Pacific Ocean. Not only was this a wonderful site to hold our carving show, but the area is also a virtual playground of sites to see, beaches to play on, fine dining, and outdoor fun!

Astoria is known for its rich maritime history, fishing industry, camping, Hollywood movie site, and one of the last stops for the Lewis and Clark Expedition. Make your plans to include the Columbia Flyway Wildlife Show and stay and play on the beautiful Oregon Coast.

The show focuses on hand-carved, textured, and painted wood sculptures of birds, fish, mammals, and North West Coastal Native American Carvings, in twenty competitive divisions.

View the judging of wildlife and other carvings in the main auditorium and the decoys in the water tank. Take advantage of the free seminars and demonstrations. We have World Champions and notable carvers presenting seminars to help expand your carving knowledge.

There are a limited number of spaces to take a Friday all-day pay class. Del Herbert, World Champion Carver, and a professional artist will teach an all-day class on Friday.  Pre-registration is required.  An additional all-day class will be added soon in the Artistic Creation category. And as if that is not enough, join us at the water tank Sunday afternoon, for the Don Baiar Memorial 6” mini decoy floaters “trade” event where grown carvers get more excited than they should at the intense competition and nail-biting dramatics.

This show is a member of the International Wildfowl Carvers Association (IWCA). We will be hosting the “IWCA” Style Decoy Championship” open to all contestants, for 2023.

There is approximately $10,000 available to win in purchase awards and prize money.

The Byrn Watson Memorial Award will be awarded to the “Best of Show” carving.

The Will Hayden Memorial Awards will be awarded to the Best of Show for intermediate and novice carvers. Due to the generous donations from area carving clubs and individuals who benefited from Will’s years of friendship, mentoring, and support, this award will be given for years to come.

Also, being awarded is the Helen Foster Memorial Songbird Award.

With our spacious new venue, we have room for many vendors. If you have carvings or products to sell, please contact us for table or booth information and rates.

Make your plans to be with us for our 34rd annual Columbia Flyway Wildlife Show. Help us grow this show into one of the premier carving shows in the nation.

ASTORIA, Ore. — Oregon's very own Astoria was named among the 50 best small towns to visit in the United States, and two other Oregon locations also made the cut.

Multiple families were polled by the vacation website FamilyDestinationsGuide.com to create the list of best small towns for vacationers to visit.

Astoria ranked #25 on the list.

"The mighty Columbia River meets the Pacific Ocean and historic Victorian homes and bustling fishing ports paint a picture-perfect Pacific Northwestern town," the report said about the historic and iconic Oregon city.

The site named Astoria's waterfront attractions, fascinating museums, colossal observation towers, lively neighborhoods, breathtaking state parks, stunning historical sites, local tour agencies, and other unique draws as some of the reasons it placed on the list.
